Privacy: a guide for students

When you submit a recording, we use it to turn your speech into text or assess your pronunciation. We use your answers to give you practice marks and feedback.

You do not need a Cantora account or an email address. For homework, we ask for your first name so your teacher can recognise your work.

For homework they set, your teacher can see the name you entered, your written answers and your results. They can also see if an answer was flagged as abusive. They do not receive an audio recording through the homework report.

Cantora does not save recordings in its database. The provider that turns conversation answers into text may keep recordings and voice data for up to three years after Cantora stops working with them. The provider that assesses Reading aloud does not keep the audio after assessment.

Your answers are not used to train AI models. The Privacy Policy explains how long recordings, answers as text and results are kept.

We save your rating, any comment you add and the feedback you rated so we can review its quality. That feedback may include part of your answer.

If you have concerns about recording your voice for homework, speak to your teacher about another way to complete the work.

You can ask questions about your personal information, request a copy, or ask us to correct or delete personal information by emailing privacy@cantora.co.uk. A parent or teacher can help you make the request. The Privacy Policy explains your rights, including when you can ask us to limit or stop using your personal information.
